AbstractFor decades, researchers have considered the main functions of the teacher in the classroom to be the teaching content and classroom management, as in Gauthier (2006), Doyle (1986), and Shulman (1986). Specifically, Gauthier (2006), from the works of Doyle and Shulman, referred to the set of actions that involve the two functions of content management and classroom management. Taking this concept of the dual role of the teacher in the classroom, the ideas of Chevallard (2005) and Houssaye (1988, 2007) regarding the didactic-pedagogical triangle and aspects of Charlot’s theory of the relationship to knowledge (2000), we construct a 3x3 matrix (table) called the Teacher Matrix as an instrument for analyzing teachers’ perceptions, reflections, and actions in the classroom. The instrument was applied to the interviews of two teachers who participated in activities in a continuing teacher education program. The instrument was very interesting for identifying teachers’ characteristic movements, as well as their perceptions, reflections, and actions from their speech. |
